First, the vocabulary

In Tennessee, homes like ours are licensed as Residential Homes for the Aged, and larger communities are Assisted-Care Living Facilities. Georgia uses different words: we are licensed as a personal care home.

Same kind of place. Different state, different paperwork. If you have been searching “assisted living near Chattanooga” and nothing small has come up, this is why — the places just across the line are filed under a name you were not searching for.

Our rates

Every price below is all-inclusive. No care-level surcharges. No medication management fee. No incontinence supply charge. What we quote is what you pay.

Shared roomPrivate room
Level 1$3,900$4,950
Level 2$4,600$5,650
Level 3$5,300$6,350

Community fee: $2,000, one time. Most communities in the Chattanooga area charge between $2,000 and $5,000. Ours covers preparing the room, the initial care assessment and care plan, admission paperwork, and help with waiver applications where they apply.

Level 1 — help with medications, bathing prompts, meals, laundry and housekeeping. Mobile, transfers on her own.
Level 2 — hands-on help with bathing, dressing and toileting. One-person transfer. Some memory support.
Level 3 — two-person or lift transfer, bowel and bladder incontinence, significant memory support, or help with eating.

Assessed at move-in, reviewed every six months, and we call you before anything changes.

Ask any community you tour: is that price all-inclusive, and what does it become if her care needs increase?

The rooms

A private bathroom with grab rails
Every room has its own private bathroom

Every room has its own private bathroom. No sharing with the room next door, no trip down the hall at two in the morning. In a great many homes that is not the case, and it is worth asking about everywhere you look.

Rooms are comfortable rather than large. Residents spend their days in the living room, the dining room and on the porch — not shut in a bedroom, and the building is single level throughout.

Why Chattanooga families cross the state line

The front porch at Ridge Manor

It is smaller. Most families searching in Chattanooga are choosing between communities of eighty to a hundred and twenty residents. Ridge Manor of Rossville has twenty-four. Our staff know every one of them by name, know which ones do not sleep well, and know who takes her coffee black.

It is close. Rossville sits directly on the Chattanooga city line. Most of our Chattanooga families visit several times a week. Some come daily.

And when private funds run out, she does not have to move again

Private savings run down. In most Chattanooga communities that means moving — new building, new staff, new routine — at exactly the point in someone’s life when change is hardest to absorb.

Residents who move to Ridge Manor of Rossville become Georgia residents, and may apply for Georgia’s Medicaid waiver programmes from our address. We are an approved provider through the Elderly and Disabled Waiver Program, accepting CCSP and SOURCE. We help families through that application, and we do it often.

We cannot promise approval — nobody honestly can. Eligibility and authorisation are determined by the appropriate Georgia agencies and care coordinators. But we can tell you plainly whether it is worth applying in your situation, before you commit to anything.

Questions Chattanooga families ask us

Can my mother stay on her Tennessee doctor?
If she has Original Medicare, yes. Medicare is federal and works with any provider who accepts it, in any state. On a Medicare Advantage plan it depends on that plan’s network — see below.

Does she have to change her Medicare?
Original Medicare (Parts A and B) — no change at all. Medicare Advantage (Part C) — these plans cover set service areas, usually by county, so moving from Hamilton County, Tennessee to Walker County, Georgia takes her outside her plan’s area. That opens a Special Enrollment Period to choose a plan available here or return to Original Medicare. A normal process, not a penalty. Part D works the same way. We are not insurance advisers and will not pretend to be — but we can point you to free Medicare counselling in either state.

Can I visit whenever I want?
Yes. You do not need to call first and you do not need a reason.

Do you have a room right now?
Availability changes week to week. Call or text (470) 469-7136 and we will tell you exactly what is open today.

My prayers were answered when we found Ridge Manor for my mom with dementia. My dad and I looked at numerous memory care facilities in Canton, but none could compare to the love and attention she receives at Ridge Manor. The ratio is 1:6 twenty four hours per day. Most of the other facilities we looked at were 1:8 during the day and 1:10 or 16 at night. My mother is a big fall risk and needed much more attention than the larger facilities could offer. She has a mat next to her bed which chimes so that they know when she gets up. The caregivers at Ridge Manor have completely spoiled my mother. They know her favorite foods and drinks and they offer them routinely. They do not get upset when she is agitated and know exactly how to calm her down. They call me if mom doesn’t eat a meal, if she didn’t sleep well, or if she shows any signs of not feeling well. I’m a nurse by trade and I completely trust Jason and the caregivers with the care of my beloved mom.

My mother stayed at Ridge Manor. She had late stages of Alzheimer's and i wanted to find a home like environment for her. A friend of mine recommended Ridge Manor. From the start they created a warm and comforting environment by playing my moms favorite shows on tv and reading the bible to her. The house was clean and staff were friendly and experienced. If you have a loved one that is looking for an alternative to the larger facilities this is a great option.

I've been amazed at how much happier my father is at Ridge Manor. He is in late stages of Alzheimers and was very depressed prior to arriving there. The staff and owners have been phenomenal. He enjoys listening to Frank Sinatra and play it for him regularly. His favorite meal is fried chicken with gravy and they added it to the menu when he arrived. The management is very responsive and provide updates regularly. If you have a loved one that needs memory care Ridge Manor is a great option that i would recommend.

I am so glad we found Ridge Manor. My mother was previously in a larger community that was owned by a big company. It focused more on fine dining and movie theaters. Only shortly after my mom fell and fractured her hip we realized that she needed much more care that they could not provide. Ridge Manor had much better oversight with their 1:6 caregiver to resident ratio and personalized the care by doing activities and cooking foods that my mother enjoys. The owners are hands on and frequently visit the facility. This is definitely one of the best decisions I have made.

I am so happy that my mother is a resident of Ridge Manor now. I don't have to worry anymore about her being alone and not being able to take care of herself. She can be very difficult at times, but Jason and Annie are so nice and patient, and have bent over backwards to make my mother feel at home. They try to get her to eat better by making food especially for her on days when she's being particularly picky, and they spend as much time as it takes to talk to her to make her feel better on days when she gets confused and angry. I couldn't do half of what they do. My mother has even said to me several times that everyone there is very nice. She gets bored sometimes, but overall, she seems to be happy there. Something that's also very important to me....this is a HOME, not a facility!
